check out the sticky at the top of this section....89 GTU= base model 89 GTUs= no sunroof, power anything, ~200lbs lighter than a TII, TII brakes, TII suspension,16" rims, I think TII sway bars, not too many were made....in 1990 only 100 were made....blah blah blah check the FAQ...

GTUs has a different gearing ratio......i think u can tell by doing 80mph...if the tach says 4000rpm then its a GTUs....normally it should be 3250ish(for t2)...

oh yeah....tranny gearing and the differential is 4.3 as opposed to the 4.1 on the 5spds and 3.9 of the automatics...

The GTUs doesnt have a sunroof, 16" rims (TII rims), 4.3 LSD, 4 piston brakes

89 GTU is basicly the base model. The S4 had 4 piston callipers... but the S5s don't. manual windows, manual locks.

Yep definitely a GTUs. I have both 87TII and GTUs but totally love the GTUs for some reason. It feels lighter than my TII which it is BTW and i totally dig the handling. And as most GTUs owners did or do, im also in a process of doing a turbo swap in my GTUs...

Try the for sale section....

Its a proven fact that the GTUs handles better than the TII... no opinion about it. AFAIK, all N/As handle better than TIIs (stock fellas, stock).

However, a TII with simple suspension mods can leave a N/A in the dust in the 'twisties.'

i agree with the sentiments that a gtus could make a good daily driver/autocrosser. but i realy dont understadnt why you guys go and do tii swaps on them. the tii drivetrain adds back another 100+ lbs that you can never get rid of (so long as its turbo). the gtus needs to be that light since it only has so much power. every pound counts on an n/a car, while on a turbo car a feww hundred pounds on the chasis can be easily made up for with a few pounds of boost.

besides, the gtus is a very rare and focused car, there are only a few and its a shame when they get turned into just another tii. if you want light for a tii swap the s4 base is even lighter (and cheaper/more common) than the gtus anyway.

the gtus was meant to be the ultimate n/a rx7 (the best n/a engine this side of the renesis mated to the best drivetrain of any second gen, in the lightest s5 chasis possible with the best brakes ant wheels too), turboing it is missing the point.

just my .02

i guess beacuse you take a car that is 200lbs(2800) lighter than a TII(3000)...and add 100+ lbs in Turbo stuff and then do some weight reduxtion and some modifications and you can have a 2700 lbs. 250HP RX-7.....i think it is better to do a TII swap into a convertible for the same reason that was posted...in the end it will be a regular TII......I did it cuz it was what I could afford......as soon as I have enough$$ I would like to get a nice running convertible and swap everything out.....make the GTUs NA(with vert engine) and the Vert Turbo( my GTUs engine).....

about 160-165 wheel hp is the max before porting and still using the stock ems (ALL the bolt ons on a very strong s5 engine). porting and stock EMS can get you about 175. the most streetable power (big street port, standalone, built internals etc) is probobly about 200-215 wheel.

periphreal ports with carbs can make almost 300 wheel hp. but are ONLY for the track.

thats just a quick outline. much more to it than just that. so do some searches.
