89 convertible engine options
Hello,
I have a 1989 convertible. It has been modified with a Bonez cone filter, highflow cat and jacobs electronic ignition. It also has a RB header and HKS 60mm exhaust. The engine has 125000 miles on it and it has started to smoke when shifting at high RPM. It starts when warm without any problems, however the idle is a little rough at about 600rpm. The idle is smooth when the AC is on and the idle climbs to 750RPM.
I am looking to have the engine rebuilt and would like advice. I would like more HP(who wouldn't?).
I would like 200 RWHP at minimum.
Is there a way to have a NA engine that is still STREETABLE and attain this HP?
Would it be more economical to swap a S5 TII complete drivetrain?
What are the approximate costs for a NA with 200 RWHP and or the TII swap?
Thank you for your time,
David Hutchings

My neighbor Jeff is getting close to 200 from his S5 Vert.
He has a complete rebuild with a street port done by Atkins.
He also has free flowing intake & exhaust.
His other trick is low profile tires on the stock rims to increase the final drive ratio.
