89 beginner questions.what to look for

My friend is looking at a 89 rx7 nearby us. 115,000 miles GXL. We both know NOTHING about these rotary engines. Its been sitting at this location for almost a year, askin 2500, which seems pretty cheap, compared to others on autotrader?

Tell me all the basics about these cars, and performance numbers to. What to look for. And typical mods.
Thanks

Too much...unless this thing starts and idles fine right now?&nbsp If it doesn't, cut the price down in half...

Blues77,

Hey welcome to the forum. If the body & interior are in good shape, then get a Mazda rotary specific compression check on the engine by your local mazda dealer. If the compression numbers looks good and it idles well, then it's probably a good deal.

If not keep looking for a good one.

RX-7s are a blast to drive and have a HUGE international following from performance manufacturers, tunes, and enthustiest. That means you have a WIDE selection of bodykits, performance upgrades, accessories, model kits, gas powered R/C cars, etc...

The GXL is definilty the car to get if you want luxury & performance. It has the best mix of price/performance/and luxury. If you want massive HP you may eventually want to pick up a turbo II to tinker with as well
