89-91 Tail light upgrade on a 88 convertible

guys I just finished slapping on a set of 91 tail lights from a convertible model to my 88 vert. These are a direct bolt on and "" You do not need the center peice that hold the license plate for these to bolt up". I have been told many times on this forum that you need the center peice for this to work properly and I am dispelling those rumors now.

For the Vert model you do not need the center peice if you are using the tail lights from another vert. Mods please sticky this.

yeah its not a mystery but I went out and bought the center peice as well thinking I would need it and it comes with license plate lights and all that stuff cost extra. Just trying to save you guys the extra 30 bucks I had to shell out.

I don't know why anyone thinks this is a mystery... all the verts use the same insert panel. Why would anyone think otherwise???

And certinly not worth a sticky... maybe a note in the 2nd gen archive... but no way in heck a sticky.

(Of course why someone would want ugly S5/Tbird Lights on their 88 is beyond me... here you have the only year (88) that decent lights were put on the vert- and you wreck it)

Ice, What they are talking about is mainly found in the forsale section and has to do with the Vert Center piece vs. the coupe center piece.

The Vert tail lights are shorter and the Center piece is wider with the the keyhole for opening the trunk.

If you have a vert and you try to use coupe taillights and center piece you'll have no keyhole for opening the trunk.

After being hit in the rear twice in 8 months...........ask me about verts tail lights.

Oh yeah, I know... but the whole reason this thread was started was because Bukwild thought that the convertible S4 plate instert and convertible S5 plate insert was/were different (despite the same part number on both).
