89-91 Exhaust work...success

I had my stock '89 exhaust on my car for to long. So I decided to remove it, I took the whole exhaust off only to find that it had so many holes it wasn't worth patching.

So...I drove it (without any exhaust on it...LOUD AS HELL) to the exhaust shop, by the time I got there I was nearly deaf. I went to a place called "Economy Exhaust" but don't get the name wrong...its a great place...4 hours and they had made me a completely custom exhaust and put it on the car.

They basically took the diamater of the stock exhaust and ran it all the way back (i brought along my mufflers, which they re-used because they were still good) so basically the entire exhaust was replaced, except for the mufflers. Well, this worked great, the exhaust is SOOOOOO quiet now that even the electric fan is louder than the exhaust, I can clearly hear all the wastegate whining from before.

Strangly enough, now that it is a free-flowing exhaust, there is hardly any sound, no boost creeping above 7.5-8 PSI (no FCD yet, but I am getting one just for security), and also I get more boost in the lower gears now, first gear I get full boost and craploads of acceleration. Also the boost comes on quicker and is fully spooled by just before 3000 RPM. Way more acceleration and tourque in the lower end.

I am extremely happy with it. I can push the gas hard in 1st, 2nd, 3rd safely without worrying about over-boost (still stock air-box keeps that under control as well as the ;89 wastegate). I still won't push it in fourth or fifth, they like to boost a little higher than the other 3 from what I have observed, so I will wait for my FCD and S-AFC for that.

my TII with 3" dp and 3" mp would hit 7.5 consistent and only spike to 10psi for a split second no fuel cut

Just out of curiously, not wanting to critisize or anything, but how much did they charge for that? I'm wondering if its just as good to go that way rather than buying a whole RB system which sure isn't cheap.

hmmm...

It was $350 CDN (The RB system works out to be about $1200 CDN).

I am not worried about the mufflers exploding from the heat, there is less heat now then when the cat was on there.

Plus they put on some nice classy looking tips on the mufflers, and painted the mufflers to make them look better...

Great shop

I had a local shop make me a straight pipe from my RB DP to my muffler for 80 bucks. Not too bad and she sounds fantastic now.
