88 Vert ... Time to convert to Turbo... Advice
Its been a while since I posted here, but going back a while ... I bought this 88 Vert a few years ago with less than 30k original miles on it. I've driven it faithfully since then, and its been great... but its time for more power. Seriously. 140hp is not cutting it anymore! (https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/picked-up-new-rx7-%2Apics%2A-520975/ < when I bought my car... 06 apparently!)
I've only got 36k miles on the car now and everything basically works (minus cruise control, but thats another story). I think I've found someone selling an 87 JDM-spec Turbo II motor + Trans (minus wiring harness) that apparently runs. I'm prety sure that no matter what, I want to rebuild the motor and trans anyways before they go in -- so thats going to be project #1. I'll figure that out as I go.
For project #2 -- the install -- what can I expect? As far as I know the wiring harness in my car will mostly fit this motor already. I may have to extend/move a few wires (anyone have a list of those?). Other than replacing worn parts that I find as I go, are there going to be other parts I need? New engine mounts, etc? All I can think of is that I'll likely need to replace the whole exhaust...

install is simple. do you plan to drop tranny and motor in at once or tranny then motor? makes a difference.. the wiring harness will work without any mods. although some like to extend the tps wiring as its kinda a tough one to plug in.
as for replacing the whole exhaust, you can get by with what you have i believe. i used a stock jdm downpipe to a "test" tube to the stock y pipes. but in cali you might have problems here
now you know about replacing the AFM, BPS, ECU, injectors, and all that stuff right? this may be a good time to replace engine mounts, tranny mounts, i found it a lot easier to do the fuel filter with the engine out, scrub and paint the engine bay, ect ect

hey whats up ~~ i was in the same situation if u buy the s4 engine is only gonna give u around 180hp . and the s5 gives u around 210 , u have a 88 ur gonna have to changed ur drive shaft mazdatrix have them ,,, u dont have to change ur amounts . now if u go with the s5 engine ur gonna have to spend more money if u go with the s5 engine ur gonna have to do some research with ur wiring ... i bought a haltech computer u can eliminate alot of stuff in ur engine and u can use ur s5 engine , the haltech computer runs about 800 to 1500 dollars depends what deal u can get i got the e6k ... this is not a civic swap this is something that not many people knows how to do it ... u have a s4 non turbo dash ur gonna have to see ur boost controller and all of that . u can run with stock wiring but its a pain in the *** ... i have a video ... here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4_RBm3CmZs i bought the s5 engine so it can be different if u buy the s4 turbo engine ..
