88 Vert:Installing a new Pioneer-removing factory radio...help!
I just took out my old mazda factory radio (the one with the cd/tape deck/receiver) and am looking to install a new Pioneer 2200UB.
Any advice on how to wire it up (specific harness etc,) and what kind of adapter kit I should get to fill the space.?
Also this is the 88 vert with the headrest speakers so I want to make sure I get those wired in too.
Any help/recommendations is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

A friend and I just put a stereo in my 88 turbo2. Metra makes the adapter kit and wire harness kit. scoshe makes a wire harness kit too. Because of the factory amplifiers we ran new speaker wires and eliminated the old amps. You also have to wire in a relay for the power antena. Wiring diagrams are in the frequently asked question section.

DON'T GO SCOSCHE!
The scosche kit for our cars suck. I do this for a living... MECP and all that.
The metra kit has a blank for the bottom side that you can use to mount gauges. The scosche parts plastic is always have *** casted and cheesy. My advice, go metra.
As far as the rest of the car, bypass the amps. You can go easy and just bypass them at the amplifier harness located behind the passenger foot well panel, or you can run new wire.
You'll need to interface with the headrest speaker amp near the spare tire if you want to keep it.
If you want to get creative, you can replace the stock headrest speakers with 3" coaxials, a speaker saver (just an inline capacitor) plus a 5 amp resistor. The resistor value will determine the volume level of the headrest speakers. You can also use a varistor if you want, as long as its load capacity is more than 1 amp of current. Of course, interfacing the factory headrest amp is easiest if it still works.

ok cool advice. I just dont know if you can fin those metra kits in stores. Do you know where they are sold?
Im astill a little unsure about the headrest amp near the spare tire. You are talking about a vert right?
Thank you
PS Since u do this for a living whats a reasonable price to pay to have it done if I decide not to do it myself, in your opinion? Ive already got the old unit out, have the new one ready to install. 'Preciate it.

Check the wiring in the FSM for the trigger wire to the headrest amp (online, link in one of the stickies of the 2nd gen forum). Also, the signal to the
S4 Vert HR amp is a pre amp output. Signal on S5 is amplified. Otherwise, the plug in wiring adaptor will get the job done for you.

I am not recommending the metra kit over scosche for that reason though....scosche just ******* sucks in most applications.
