88 vert dome/interior light-may affect your clock
my 88 vert's clock had a coo-koo in it and it was in the on off door switch dome light rear view combo. every time i would restart the rx the clock would reset it's self and every time i would open the door the clock would not display and the dome light would not work at anytime. i pulled the light down to look at the wiring-ground connections and found that one of the wires were touching one of the other terminals. i insulated it and now my light works and so does the clock= it even keeps time! i must have been on a roll cause i saw the two taped wires that hang down beside the mirror shaft and wondered what in the world were they thinking about when they left these here and what were they for. well i'll tell you they are for your RADAR DETECTOR ,sorry V.A . take your volt meter find constant 12v tapp it put the other to ground and you have a three to four inch lead to your detector instead of that long cord running up to your windshield and you get to free up your lighter plug too *** oh i forgot to tell you you have to cut your detector plug, from the connector that plugs into the detector say about 8or 9 inches so you will have room to work with. after you cut the plug strip the ends of the wire /the one that has the plug that goes into the cig lighter/seperate them conect the volt meter to each end then plug it into the cig lighter socket to check polarity that your detector uses then match them up on the plug that goes into the detector and connect them to the light .you have plenty room to stuff the excess wire from the detector up into the overhead where the source wire comes from. this puts your detector up high for better coverage and is almost invisible from the outside .PEACE ex.

If fixing the wires corrected the problem, you should double check the the fuse rating for your interior/dome/room fuse. It may be the wrong value. Also if repairing the wires so they are no longer pinched solved the problem, the wires maybe damaged or melted in other places.
Also you should put a fuse up there before/between your connections to the radar detector, as most radar detectors use only a 1 or 3 amp fuse, and the wires you tapped onto have a 10 or 15 amp fuse on them. You can see if you short the wires again, that the detector will melt/burn before the fuse blows.

In the first post he fixed the problem, WHICH WIRES DID HE REPAIR? I tryed reading it over and over but still don't get it, is it the Dome Wires up top or the idiot light clock wires? or the door switch wires by the roker panel?
