88 Vert custom Exhaust what u think?
88 Vert custom Exhaust what u think?
Hey Guys. I just had a shop custom make an exhaust system for my '88 vert. I posted a couple of pics to see what you guys think. I had him hack out the old system and put in a single 2.5in pipe after the cat with a turbo muffler at the end. It sounds good and the car actually starts easier since I've had this done. Also, I may have this guy make me a custom downpipe to remove the first 2 (useless) cats and have a pipe from the manifold to the stock catylalitic converter. He did the pipe and muffler work on my car for about 160 bucks, and if you think he did a good job, I'll post his number and address for u peeps to call.
Its probably not the best job, but I was on a budget. Its also solid, not shaking everywhere
Also, My rex is an '88. Is the dual CD/CASSETTE stereo stock for this car?

From: We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?
NOt to be mean cause I to have been on a budget but ewwwwww. If I was using a stock style muffler I would have mounted in the stock postion . A sideways oval can just dosnt look right at all.
Sure looks like it hangs low, too.
It wouldn't last a day here in Denver...right now we have so much ice rutting that exhaust would get flattened in a heartbeat.
Do you have to pass emissions testing where you live?

heh.. its ok.. its better than the dual (w/no muffs) dragging all over the highway. the guy who did it usually does 60's nova's and camaros and has a sweet 69 nova that won best engine in shows. but hey it works and sounds good. what muffler would look better on it any reccomendations??.. I'll buy it and have him put it on
Rather than just say ewwww I thought I'd add this to make this a more constructive post.
What *I* did for around $160 on a car when I was on a budget was to get a set of the "HKS STYLE" fart cans off ebay. They were about $80 for the pair shipped.
I had the muffler shop hack off the stock rotten mufflers and put on the replacements keeping the dual system. I think they charged me $50 or $60 since I brought my own mufflers.

haha.. you guys put it in perspective for me
lol.. I live in Hamilton Ohio, and with the comments, I probably should put a "fart" can on it instead, but the turbo oval was all he had for the price. but also like I said, its not draging anywhere and it doesn't sound half bad. If I just replace the muffler with a high flow round muffler, would that look better?
lol thanks guys

well see I look at the job, instead of the appearance of the muffler.
For example he should have just replaced the coupler at the cat, instead of welding 2 inchs away from it.
and he should have used 2.25" or 2.5" piping if he was only running a single exhaust.

I'm pretty sure the pipe is 2.5in all the way to the muffler Icemark. I agree with you though that he should have probably replaced the coupling to the cat, instead of cutting and welding. Any cincy guys have an Idea where I should go for exhaust work next time??
Thanks guys
