88 Supra OR 88 RX-7

kay, this is a bit of a story- but anyways it must be told.......

About September Last year i bought a 88 Toyota supra over from Japan (i live in Australia).

And of course i had the car sitting in Japan till the end of the year (The supra was imported under the 15 year old rule). Come February this year the car arrives, and i had it sitting in my gargae getting it all ready for Australian compliance/ insurance/ rego.

Complication: I left my car out one sunday night (cos mumma wanted to do some cleaning in the garage.....figure????) and sum DUMB *** came along and stole the Supra. I had no insurance and up **** creek.

I let time pass for a while bout 5-6 weeks and no Supra. I figured someone would have just stripped it down for parts.

Anyways, i decided to be a ******** agian and imported an 88 blue RX-7. I bought this car about Mid April and it is due to leave Japan on the 6th of May. I had to get a fat loan to afford it. Pictures are attached of both the RX7 and the Supra.

Anyways I had my 21st on the 1st of May had a good time , and on the 2nd of May (Friday night) the Coppers gave me a call. They had Found my Supra!!!!!!! I can't see the car till Monday morning cos it's in the police impound. The coppers found the car 2 weeks after it was stolen, and it took them about 8 weeks for then to give me a call. Supose all they hhad to go by was a chasis number.

So i'm gonna see what the condition of the Supra is in
then make a decision on what to do. I know that the stereo was ripped out, and the steering lock was broken.

Supra: Is a GA-70- 2 litre twin turbo. This car HAD Genuine 62,000.....no bullshit. The car was the cleanest 88 car i had ever seen. I must off been lucky not to get a dud.

Rx-7: This car also has 61,000. 1 Owner, with books (in japanese . This car is also supposed to be origional and clean. So i have high expectations. This car will arrive in 2 weeks.

What to do???
What would you guys do???
Definitly hold out till tomorrow, and see the condition of the Supra. I'll let you guys know. Hopefully take some pictures of the damage/car.

Keep ya posted

Yeah I wanna see the pics. But I like the RX7 turbo or N/A over the supra. I would have imported a Savanna.

JDM is c00l y0!! a s4 tII from japan is going to be virtually identical to the USDM counterpart. I think it's a no brainger. 2jz all the way

88 tt supra? They made those TT? I have a friend with an 89 supra turbo. Nice car but i don't consider those cars true sports cars, more of a luxury sports car....

As far as I know the 2JZ didnt come about until roughly 92. If it is an 88 model, he is referring to the 7MGTE, or some variant thereof. I know the US spec supras only came as a 3.0 nonturbo and a 3.0 turbo, but I also (if memory serves) heard that the japanese models came with a 2.5 turbo engine that made more power. I could have some things mixed up though, my toyota days are long past.

The RX7 is an FC series 4, TURBO.
The Supra is a MK3 2 litre 2win turbo produces 150kws.

gsracer and hypntyz7: the engine is a 1G-GTE. 2JZ didnt come out til MK4 Supra in 92, and the 1JZ came out in 89? in the Mk3 Supra and Soarers.

Since Chuch is prolly still sick in bed, ill post some pics of the 2 cars. I would definately choose the Rx7 and he knows that.

you are definitly right hypntyz7, the gen 3 supras came out with 3l non, 3l turbo, and a 2.5tt. The 2.5tt is the excat same motor that comes from the 90's toyota soarer 1jz.....although i think there is a difference with the sumps.

I got the odd-ball supra, it's a very rare 2l tt. It goes allright, I suppose. The engine needs more displacement to make up for its wieght of about 1400kgs. Thhe reason why i went for this Supra, was that i bought it cheap and in excellent nick.....so i was going to do an engine conversion.
As mentioned before the supra is a luxury/touring car
It's even got power seats/ power everything.

TRelisys190, Elrynino: the rx-7 is a turbo t2, i think it is a savanna. Is there a differnece between the GTX and GTR'S???
Might be able to tell when i get pictures up and running.

I'm guessing that most people on this forum, since it is an RX-7 forum, will say take the RX-7.
I say take the RX-7 because I don't consider the supra a sports car, it's more of a fast luxury cruiser. That's just my opinion though, it's really up to you.

Supras are nice cars, but everybody i have talked to who has had/driven both a mk3 supra and a 2gen rx7 agrees that the 7 is a far superior car as far as speed and handling are concerned. The supra is a better car as far as road stability, space, and (to a small degree) reliability.

hahahahahahha
true that,

the wheels on the Supra are shocking
+ they have snow tires on them as well And as you can see from the pics
their ain't much snow around either.

So yes, the wheels are gay
And yes, the supra is in 4wd mode
but it was a stock car to start off with.
It was in for a massive lowering job.

I have driven my mates 87 rx7 t2
and i was left with a very good impression of the car.
Very smooth power and handling/ stability of the car was excellent.

(Enrico Palazzo:I guess i owe you a drive in the 7)

well unless the supra came with the 1jz (2.5 liter twin turbo) i'd say get the rx-7. you get more handling out of it and the power:weight ratio is much better than a boat. but it's up to you man, ask people from an rx-7 forum the answer is the 7, ask in the supra forum, the answer is the supra.
