88 S4 N/A-One of the Lines from the Oil Metering Pump Broke

I had a belt to go bad and before I could shut her down it broke one of the lines coming from the OMP right down by the nipple where it connects. Does anyone know of a way to repair this without having to remove the UIM and replace the whole line? Is there a repair kit available, perhaps or has anyone made a repair?

I plugged the hole so she won't leak out and will be running premix in the meantime.

Mazdatrix has 'em, Harley. Look on their website...

Is this the infamous "no start" car that the belt broke on?

You could think about going premix, too

I had one break on my '89 N/A and after searching found that there wasn't any pressure from the oil pump but rather engine vacuum drawing the oil through the lines. I used a piece of neoprene hose and clamped it around the break and have't had problems with it in a year and 3K miles. Are the '88 and '89 different?

Yes, radically so.

The pre-89 use a mechanical Metering Oil Pump, while the 89+ use an electrical Metering Oil Pump that is driven by the ECU.

If you only had vac drawing oil on your 89 and up, then either your MOP was broken (and not showing an error code), or the ECU is busted, or you did not test correctly.

One other thing: The "vacuum" lines that connect to the oil injectors are in fact not vacuum lines. They receive atmospheric air from the front of the throttle body.

And the dealer charges a small fortune for that electrical Metering Oil Pump. Thank God for extended warranties...
