88 rx7 SE vs. 86 300zx
Hi,
long story, bare with me. I've got an 86 300zx n/a has a dynomax exaust k/n air filter and performance spark plug wires. My soccer coach has this 88 rx7 SE n/a (stock) and I challenged him to a race. Before that could happen my mom totalled my car (wasn't her fault, luckily), and damage was so severe that we put the money to something else. A couple of days later my coach gives me the rx7 (rebuilt engine with 40,000 miles on it). They're both in my driveway and i can't stop wondering which car would've won (o yah the z is a 5 speed, and the 7 is an auto). I haven't raced the 7 yet, but is this a car to be reckoned with? Any info would be nice. Thanks!
I've looked at many forums and sites, but i haven't found much about the rx7 se. What makes the se different from any other 7? Thanks for the help!

Who cares? Street racing is stupid as hell anyway.. Are you guys gonna go watch NASCAR afterward? J/K.. Just take it to a dragstrip and find out. I'm sure the SE would win.. I don't have much experience with SE's. but my wife used to have one. From what I've seen, it's a base model FC..

If its the model 300ZX im thinking of theres no way you would have lost. The 300ZX im thinking about was a boat on land. Extremley heavy, if anything you would have had the power to weight ratio on him. Dont doubt the 7 guys

SE is the base model. Its really light though, depending on what options it has. Its a fun car, I bet it handles alot better than your old Z.
Also if you're looking for more RX-7 forums, try www.teamfc3s.org/forum its dedicated solely to the second-gen RX-7. I spend a lot more time there than here, everones really nice and helpful over there. Its a lot smaller though, so don't expect to get answers as quickly as here.

Z would have killed it, hands down. Especially from a drag race, those auto trannys were made to sell cars, not for performance.
And street race all you want, theres nothing wrong with a friendly race to settle some curiousity. Lord knows I have had plenty.
