88 RX7 factory alarm system

I'm driving a 88 convertible Rx7. (Sorry no pics) Have some questions regarding the factory alarm system.

Not sure if the alarm is working properly. quick story. My fiance' waited for me in the car last night. She was sitting in the passenger seat and unlocked the drivers door from the inside. The factory alarm went off. I didn't even know I had a factory alarm. So my fiance' says. "why don't you lock the door, and open the door with your key from the outside, maybe that will stop it." (I love smart chicks) So, I lock the door, get out of the car. close the door and use my key to open the door. The alarm went off.

Is this working correctly? I mean the alarm NEVER went off before. My finace' has opened my door from the inside, many times.

What really kicked ***, was that I could not start the car when the alarm was going off.

Under what conditions is the alarm supposed to go off?

How do you turn the alarm off, once it has started? By unlocking the door with my car key?

as covered in many other threads (you may wish to use the search function found in the upper right hand corner of this page), the factory alarm arms, by the interior latch lock, and disarms from the key in the drivers door (or in the case of the 88, in any door or the hatch).

If you had removed the key from the ignition, and then locked both doors from the interior, the factory alarm will arm.

Unlocking from the interior will then set the alarm into its triggered state.

The factory alarm will not arm from locking with the key ion the door. It will only disarm from the key on the door.

So to arm, lock the doors from the switch/lock lever inside. Hold the outside handle up while closing the door. aprox 30 seconds later the factory alarm will arm.
