I'm having an issue with my 88 convertible top where the switch will work going down, but not raising the top. A few months ago someone else was driving my car and they put the top down with the windshield still up and it got caught on it. It was able to be moved out of the way without damage to either, but it stopped working after that. I've disengaged the motors and I can manually raise and lower it fine, but it seems a bit weird that only lowering the top with the switch still works. I follow all of the proper procedures for lifting and raising the top: e-brake on with sensor working, latches unhooked, etc. I'm a bit confused now because the motors / relays seem to be fine since it works perfectly when lowering the top. If it helps, the beeping does not sound when attempting to raise. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
inside the motor units for the left and right side, there are also solenoids and switches that operates the opening and closing. The driver (left) side has switches and solenoids that control the closing of the top, the passenger (right) side controls the opening and has the control unit in it.
Most likely, the driver side has a bad solenoid or switch that sends the power to close the top to both motors. ALso check the check connector, its right near the map sensor on the shock tower, its a 6 pin connector but theres only 5 wires that are pinned
