88 rx7

My grandma is giving me a 1988 rx-7 for FREE! She said the brakes need to fixed but they have the parts to do it. It also needs to be repainted and the driver seat is torn. It doesn't have very many miles on it (not sure of exact number) Should have the engine rebuilt to be safe? I am so excited. lol Since I was going to buy a car now I will have lots of money to dump into this one. Next time I go up there I will get pics.

You in Tomball, Texas?

If the car's been sitting for a while without being driven, you may have to drain & clean out the fuel system components...

Go ahead and replace the brake fluid in the entire system while you're doing the brakes...If you have the aptitude to do so, rebuild the master cylinder at the same time, also. Then you won't have to worry about the brakes for awhile...

Don't think about a rebuild yet, with low miles on her, unless she displays loss of compression or other abnormalities (coolant gushing out of rad cap, smoking exhaust after warm up, etc)...

Start searching & reading on topics about tune ups, compression tests, cleaning the fuel system, etc...

Yep, Tomball TX. The car is in Gatesville TX right now. I am going to take some brake fluid and money with me when I go. I'll probably go during the summer so I can stay and work on it.
