88 NA intake question
ok if you dont want the story, skip to the "now here's the question" part
soo....let's say you and a friend recently decided to get into the world of rotories. you bought an 88 rx7 na for 450 bucks with 80k miles on it...and you havent really done anything to it yet so its all stock under the hood.
now i have read alot of stuff in this forum and been going through alot of other sites to get basic info on them and have amassed quite a wealth of information. but i havent really come across anything like this.
someone breaks into the car...and steals 2 things...the battery which is easily replaceable...and the STOCK AIR FILTER BOX. what the hell?!? who steals a stock intake??
now heres the question:
looking at the following picture, how much of the intake should i replace with factory components and how much of that can be replaced with an aftermarket filter setup.
thanks for any help,
scott

You could simply buy an HKS filter adapter ($20 from www.fc3s.com) and a 2¾" K&N pod filter, slap it on and it would be OK. But the pipe between the AFM and the TB has been cut very short, meaning it'll be difficult to isolate the filter from the hot engine bay. Either replace it with a stock one or fabricate an extension pipe for between the AFM and the TB to place the filter in the corner of the engine bay. Put a heat shield between it and the engine bay and duct some cold air to it.
