88 AE convertible? I saw...

one today around 1 PM at gaithersburg, MD. I noticed a white rx7 convertible was approaching with turbo hood. I thought it was like my convertible simply change the n/a hood to turbo. but whe it came closer, I saw the car with white 88 turbo rims, and a mid-age lady was driving it. after it passed me, I was like, holy ****, that is an 88 AE convertible? because I saw the AE taillights, AE badge on the fenders, and all moldings are white. man, I never seen one like this before.

the car looks like in straight body, with spoiler, black top.
unfortunately , I couldn't stop her, because I was going somewhere else.

I think the tag is "y84luch" something like that.

My guess it that it was a normal white vert that somone put a AE hood and badges on, cool deal. Cause they did not make a AE vert. that is assuming you did not hit the hookah bright and early, those wake N bakes can make you see ****.

it is unlikely that someone will do that full AE swap on a vert. I mean, it is possible, but what is the motive behind that? what about a customer ordered at dealer. let's say that she wants an AE, but prefer to have the top down?

all exterior look like an AE with hood, badge, taillights, rims? if I see it again, I will try to talk to the driver(whoever).

Befouling a collector's edition car should be forbidden, cutting the top off a car that wasn't meant to be off is one of the worst things you can do to it.. Changing rims, lights, and badging is very common....was it a 10th interior too?

I think it was most likely the other way arround a 10AE was stripped and parts were added to the convertible for a UNIQUE conversion!

I agree, 100%. It would be stupid to cut the top off a car who's model (minus the t2 and ae) that came from the factory with a topless option.... Ausies can you get 10ae verts? Maybe it is a jap car or something import, i dunno all i know aboout history of the 7 i learned from "sports car collector history" And it speaks little to none of the forien market...."sportscar colored history" has a pic of a t2 vert in europe..but those are common...i think over there all verts were t2's.....correct me if i'm wrong. I guess it's a posibility that they made a "euro" 10ae vert.....let's find out!

You make it sound difficult. There are plenty of 'verts that have had 13BT's dropped into them (or even just the TII hood), then it's just a case of painting all the appropriate bits white and buying the badges off Mazda. There are probably a few genuine details not worth copying that you wouldn't have seen.

It would be very east to make a 'vert look like an AE if that was the look you wanted. Hell, it probably wasnt even a turbo.
