I'm somewhat of a newbie and I am thinking about replacing my 88 SE 5 speed's blown engine with an 86 SE 5 speed engine. I know they're nearly identical, but I read that 86s and 87s have different impedance fuel injectors than 88s. Will this require any modifications/would this be a good idea or not? Any advice is appreciated.

 

You'll need to keep the 88's wiring and injectors, other than that it should be pretty straight forward.

 

and there was no such thing as an 86 SE, the SE was only available in the USA as an 88 model.

In 86 there was the Base
the Luxury coupe
The Sport
and the GXL

 

Yep the se replaced the base in 88.

 

I put an 86 motor in my 88 and the only differences I have noticed is the injectors, and to fix that I just used the intake off the 88. And the oil filler neck on the 88 engine has a different size and shape cap, then the 86's. But that is purly cosmetic, and won't effect anything.

Actually the SE replaced the Luxury Coupe (GL) in 88

 

just do a block swap. keep all of your manifolds/injectors and so forth!! you didnt blow those!

 

How difficult will it be to do a block swap?
Where/who would do it for me if i can't do it myself?

 

I'll do it for fifteen hundred bucks if you send me the car.
