88 10th anny towing. ?

Can these cars be towed by the front wheels? Is it safe to just tow it in neutral?? or do I need to disconnect the drive shaft?

Thx

I'm wondering the same thing

I think I'm going to tow mine home, I'll just throw it in neutral and attach a chain somewhere, and use the Golf TDI to get it home.

Should be fun

I'm not towing mine far, though, just about 10 miles.

neutral should be fine me and my brother towed a 1st gen 100miles with a tow strap. We towed it with a ford lighting. My bro just had to ride in the rx and ride the brakes needless to say the brakes where shot after words.

Towing by the front wheels and in neutral is okay. It's ideal to disconnect the driveshaft but it's not necessary for short tows.

OK for a Manual - not for an Auto!

But I'd still use a flatbed if I could...

Cheers,

if you have lsd on the car don't tow it unless the rear wheels off the ground even short tows are unpredictable on the lsd. if no lsd then do it how you like it won't hurt a thing

I can't even tow it home with LSD?

I towed my fiero with LSD almost 30 miles... I didn't have a problem!

are you sure this will cause trouble?

I've never heard of problems with an LSD. but it will wear out the tranny if towing on the rear wheels even in N. the engine needs to be running to lube the tranny. if towing on the rear wheels remove the driveshaft so the tranny doesn't turn. for only 10 miles I doubt you will do any harm though.

when they towed my car, they left the front wheels on the ground. and i was at the car at the time so no it was in neutral. as long as the engine is in neutral you are fine
