87 turbo11 question

Just baught an 87 rx7 turbo11
Great car just one problem. Yeesterday I took it for a nice drive on the hi way,I got off the the hi way came to a light. When it turned green I launched it hard brought it up to 6500 and the threw 2nd. I put it into third gear and let off at about 5000rpm, that's when the problem started, my rpm wouldn't drope below 3000 rpm. So I pulled over let it idle for a bit then shut it off and let it sit for 20min. When I tried starting it I had to crank it 3 or 4 time s before it fired and still reving at 3000rpm. Any ideas what it could be. Thanks in advance

Sorry for the novel....

Vac leak

You may have a blown off a vac line while under boost. Check the lines coming off the Air Control Valve and the line to the boost sensor, small hoses on the passenger side rear of the intercooler, intercooler and intake piping clamps, etc. If it visually looks ok, try spraying starter fluid near connections while the engine is running to find it.
If no vac leak, maybe your throttle cable or cruise control motor is sticking and holding the throttle body open. Much less likely, but it is a possibility.
And DO NOT try to fix it by adjusting the idle air mixture near the boost sensor. This will only make it angry. Hope you get your car back on the road quick.
