87' turbo II smoke problems.

Hi guys, so i just got this turbo II and it smokes blue on start up and the same while idling but when you give it gas its fine. the guy told me the turbo is original and is probably going bad, its probably the seal leaking oil on the exhaust side during vacuum which makes sense, but then it idles rough as well, it sounds like a cam'd v8 and i was wondering if the turbo is causing a vacuum leak??

if it's smoking right at startup then it is oil leaking down into the chambers while the engine is sitting, meaning your irons are worn or the oil seals are squared off and can't hold oil very well when the engine is off.

a small amount of smoke that burns off quick isn't anything to worry too much about, if it is thick and takes a while to dissipate then you may want to consider the possibility of rebuilding the engine.
