87 Transmission Maybe?

Hey i drive a 1987 GXL, and i kind of have a problem. Now i know, or knew my slave cylinder leaked, didnt think much of it just figured i`d replace it when i had the money. So one morning i`m driving to school, go to shift from 1`st to 3`rd, and its a cold morning and suddenly it just gets stuck. I then only had 1`st and Second gear. Heres quick kill story, on the way home i still beat a toyata tercel , but anyways. I`m not sure what the problem is, my friend says its probably the shift fork, now if it is, is that difficult to fix. I also read if the slave cylinder gets messed up, that the entire bellhousing can. Now i went out to my car its been off the road for winter, and i cannot get any compression in the clutch, not even when i fill the slave cylinder. Can anyone help cus it`d be great if you could.

syncros?? (I know, the universal answer).

I had a minor tranny rebuild on my vert @ 93K even though it didn't need it (loose shifter). Might as well get the sycros to spec while mazcare was working on it.
