Hey Banzai, where did you get your turbo rebuild kit? Are you marking the shafts before removing them? Just curious cuz I really want to rebuild my own turbo, but I want it to last.

what gaskets are you going to use with the turbine housing that you ported out. I checked out the fc3s pro site and it said to port to match the metal manifold gasket?

That new pontiac in Minority Report has a twin scroll, one thing, the stock ecu was designed for the twin scroll if you remove the twin scroll you prolly won't boost untill like 5k, the twin scroll a very good design!

As far as the wg porting. It will help out a ton, but the creep will never go away. but now my boost is 5 and creeps to 6.5 to 7 in 3rd and 4th. 2.5 exh. no cats, tid, intk., fmic

Since you asked...

Be careful about trying to get that center divider too thin.&nbsp If it gets too thin and happens to fail (i.e. crack or fold over), it might take out the enter turbine section.

The wastegate hole is approaching the diameter of the door itself.&nbsp Be sure the flapper doesn't JAM into any of the edges - you can figure out it's very bad if it jams shut. Don't be afraid to port the hole larger than the flapper itself - rule of thumb is valve to be 3/4ths of the area of the hole itself.&nbsp The wastegate doesn't need to be air-tight; if you've seen any of the number of aftermarket wastegates, their valves are not sealed against the valve hole not by any margin.

Thanks Ted, I'll leave the center alone and attack the wastegate hole again.

Twin scroll or not? I am ready to pull my turbo off and port my waste gate. I will be running a full 3" downpipe and 3" exhaust on my car (13bt datsun 510). Should I remove the twin scroll? I am afraid of loosing a lot of low end boost. Car is mainly for street and some twisties (not drag). If I port the turbo manifold, I have to take out the twin scroll right? Does the twin scroll become useless with a big exhaust anyway? How does removing the twin scroll affect the power curve? Also I have heard of people drilling an additional hole in the middle of the manifold (directly across from the original hole) so that the wastegate bleeds air from both sides of the manifold. Is this recommended?

Did I read this right? The wastegate can be alot bigger than the flapper itself? I've seen up 10-15%, but what you are saying is 33%. I'm porting the wastegate myself at this moment but do not want to replace the stock flapper. Right now it's ported to approx. 21mm with a nice angle. If my math is correct, you are telling me that I can port up to 28-29mm with the stock flapper? This has to cause some sort of lag. How noticeable would it be?

Also what exactly are the benefits of porting the turbine housing runners(to ex. manifold)? Just better flow? Reduce lag?

Wastegate porting is all about minimizing boost creep.&nbsp Lag is not an issue if you're worried about boost creep, as the engine spins really fast with a big enough exhaust to induce boost creep.

Porting the runners induces better exhaust flow.&nbsp This aids in increase turbo response...

Cool, thanks. I'm going to finish porting the WG and the turbine runners tom. I'll take some pic, hopefully it will get the gurus' nods.

O, Ted, what happened to your site? It was by far the best FC3S site on the net.

Yahoo is being a bitch about it.&nbsp I got the site paid, but now Yahoo is telling me they CAN'T retrieve old data cause they are still in the ******* dark ages with no back-up system.&nbsp What dumbfucks!&nbsp I paid to restart the website, and they can't reload from a back-up.&nbsp I'm super pissed right now at the whole situation, and it looks like I have to rewrite 11 MEGS of info from scratch!

i ported my runners too.

When u do that especially with the s4 you'll see some boost creep.

I ported my wastegate twice. First time wasn't enough so i took it off again...........needless to say you really need to maximize the area u can get.

i had 3 inch all the way back too.

I was able to keep her in the 10's and 11's with a pretty beefy wastegate port.
