87 Non-Turbo to convert to Turbo
Hi All:
I have a 87 Non-Turbo, and I was seeking some input from everyone.
What is the best path to take in converting this to a Turbo..
1. Add-on Turbo Kit
2. Change motor to a Turbo II
3. Etc....
What are your ideas?????
Thanks All

Use the "SEARCH" function in the upper right hand corner. Put in "NA to turbo" and search in the second gen section. You will find about 20 threads regarding this issue. If after reading all of that; you still have questions, post them. Just about every area of the swap has already been discussed a few times so you will probably find all you need to know.

1) Contact Auto Trader and/or your local papers, place an ad saying "RX-7 for sale" with appropriate details.
2) Sell car to someone who responds to your ad in step 1.
3) Look in the same publications for a decent TII.
4) Purchase the TII that you located in step 3.
5) Put the money you SAVED by doing it this way in the bank for a vacation or something.
The ONLY exception to this method is if you have a CONVERTIBLE that you want to be a TII. They didn't come that way in the US. I have DONE the drivetrain swap, it's not TOO bad, but it's not "cake" either. You can plan to spend probably $3000-$4000 doing this swap by the time you are done... COUNT on $2000 minimum just for the parts you need, + buying tools, etc.
Now, is your car +$2000 enough to buy a TII? It should be, since a decent TII can be had for $3000-$4000. You save the work, the headache, and the resale value on a "real" TII is higher than a "converted" car. And if your car isn't worth at least $1500 as it is, it certainly isn't worth doing this swap on. Sorry, just the facts.
