87 N/A hp potential....
I purchased a 1987 n/a rx7 not to long ago with only 48,000 miles. I just need to be steered in the right direction with power gains. I was woundering what mods I would need got get my 87 n/a from 146 hp to around 200 hp? Any suggestions would help. I was also woundering if the car is still capable of running a 15.5 since thats what the factory times say for 1/4 mile... Do they loose alot of power over the years? And what 1/4 mile time should I expect out of a 200 hp 87 n/a Rx7??? Tanx alot guys. :bigthumb:

get a full tune up first. no exceptions.
full exhaust and intake are pretty much all an N/A can do, unless you get into porting and such. 200hp will be hard. im currently turboing my 86n/a though. |
Search please, this topic is covered constantly :(!

If you want 200hp, I think your going to need the following to get it with stock porting. -Full removal of the 6pi for maximum peak airflow -Ported manifolds -Polished and smoothed out intake as well -Piggyback/Standalone (standalone will be a shitload better) -Full exhaust including header -Cone filter intake That would be a pretty damn badass NA. If you go as far as an agressive street/bridge port, you could get much much higher HP. |
I beg to differ, porting is the NA's best friend for power added per mod. It's just a lot harder than most bolt-ons. :) Second would come exhaust, third would come a cold air intake and intake manifold porting, fourth would come EMS.
In my opinion of course. :) |
Not going to happen unless you go forced induction or NOS.
Trying to get it NA up to 200hp (at the wheels?) takes a lot of custom work or a lot of money! -Ted |

Imho:
Porting (Kahren agressive stage streetport) (s5 rotors) Extrude honed manifolds Full exhaust Cold air intake of a sort Adding a piggy back or perferably a stand alone ECU Then NOS! That should be good for 200 HP. (Since its what I'm planning). I say search under Kahren and see the numbers he was making in his NA's. |
theres alot of things you can do, just ask your local rotary drivers and find out what they did to there cars. If they did something you didnt do and are able to then do it. You would be suprised what can be done to these things. Turbo's and Nos arnt the end all to be all of power.

v8 conversion lol

BHP or WHP?

I thought he meant brake, as he compared it to the "stock 146hp" rated at the flywheel.

Thats true. But id rather tell someone im getting 300rwhp out of the engine as opposted to needing a turbo to do it. I wont even go in to nos i consider it cheating. just my opnion though.
|
i agree i'm just not as impressed to see a fast car if its using nos... you dont deserve any extra power you dont normally have. that is unless youre just trying to see just how fast you can get it and dont have anything left to do
|
i encourage turbos though sometimes it just makes more sense to have it turboed($$$$$)

Nos is cheating b/c once you run out of the juice your car nolonger has that power and until its on the juice your car doesnt have the power. Before you do it dont compare nos to gasoline.

So how do you feel about forced induction? That's something that isn't supposed to be there. NOS is just another power adder. I bet you got pwnt buy a Civic running nitrous? |

Amazing the crap people come up with....almost sounds like a piss poor excuse for not being able to afford it, just like most people who bash turbo's, generally they can't affford it..... Either that or someone dropped them on the head, because the goal of 'modifying' a car is to make it go faster... and a turbo is always going to net more than without one, and the same goes for NOS/

Nos is cheating the way i see it. Turboing i dont ahve anything against it but i dont think ill be bothering to do it to my car.
|
Yeah, "I won't bother." means I can't afford it on pizza delivery driver wages.
