87 GXL won't start after engine swap
I just completed an engine swap on my 87 GXL last night. I checked and double checked every connection and hose. I tried starting it today and it just cranks...then flooded...so I unflooded it and still no go. The car ALMOST starts but then just cranks.
The engine is from a similar year and is N/A just like my old motor. However it had been sitting for quite some time and the apex seals were stuck. When I got the motor I filled it with MMO and worked each seal free. I'm thinking the no start might be from lack of compression but the motor sounds good when I crank with no spark plugs...three even whooshes from each housing.
Any thoughts or ideas on how to get this beast started?

Well we push started it again today after I went over everything once more (found a couple small things but shouldn't have prevented starting)
At first nothing then we got it up to a good speed and popped the clutch and ka pow it started and ran for about 3 seconds and died. So we tried again and then BOOM! It backfired through the intake and caught the engine on FIRE!!!! I jump out of the car and ran and got a bucket of water and doused it. Forunantly not much burned...just a few vacuum hoses connected to the oil sprayers and the omp lines. The wires to the secondary injectors got singed but it was just the tape on the outside...the wires were fine. The rest of the wire harnass was untouched thank god.
Well the car is going back to my parents backyard with a car cover...I'm leaving for Korea on tuesday...getting stationed at Osan AB for the next year. Now comes the big job of cleaning up all the mess. I just wish I could have gotten the car up and running before I leave. Oh well...theres always next year.
