86 RX-7 GXL Help Needed

I just bought this car yesterday. It has not run for 2 years. I just needed to know what I should look out for before I even turn the key or what I need to do first.

This is my introduction to an RX-7. I've always admired them and now I have one but I need a lot of help.

Please give pointers as to what I need to do/change out first and any relevant info and help would be most appreciated.

Thanks.
Charles

86 rx-7 you mean? If it hasnt been started for 2 years, the engine might have to be taken out. From what I know, the seals will get stuck after sitting for long periods of time. But when you get that taken care of, keep up on your oil levels, and dont let the car get hot.

Make sure the fluids are ok. You should prob go ahead and change them. Get new plugs and check all the hoses. Once you get it running, do a compression check to see what kind of shape its in.

also, i have heard of taking the spark plugs out and putting a very small amount of ATF into the plug holes to lubricate the seals. Not sure on the exact amount, maybe someone can comment on this.

If you do that, make sure you dont leave it in too long and promptly change the oil. ATF can be very harmful to the soft seals in the engine if left very long. I would try starting it first, and if it wouldn't start, try unflooding it, then try the ATF. As far as I'm concerned it is a last ditch effort.
