'86 performance? - go then stop.

Hi, I'm new to the forums. I own a 1986 N/A. Modifications include:

HKS Intake
HKS Sport Exhaust
JIC FLT-A2 coilovers
Ground Control Rear Camber Link
Eibach Anti-Sway Bar Kit (F/R)
16" Enkei wheels
Toyo Proxes T1-S (225/50/16 ZR rear, 205/55/16 ZR front)
Corbeau A4 Seats

Lately, I've felt that the car could use a bit more power. I can't use the RB Header/Presilencer (I live in California, unfortunately), so I was wondering about your suggestions. My ultimate goal would be for around 175 rwhp. I looked around a bit and so far I think that the parts I'll get soon will be: APEXi S-AFC II, Bonez High flow DP/Cat, Jacobs ignition module, and Mazdaspeed wires w/ Denso Iridium plugs. Does anyone have any other suggestions for squeezing a bit more power out of the motor? Please keep in mind that I have to keep the car emissions legal.

Also, I was recently thinking of upgrading the brake system, so I was wondering how much time/money it would take to do a 5-lug conversion along with the GXL brakes. Thanks in advance to any reply.

how much for your're 4 lug rims if you do the swap? i've been looking forever for a good deal and 4 lugs are not as common as 5. i'm not sure but you could get most of the parts you need at a good junkyard. there's plenty of toasted rx-7's lying around. i've thought about it myself but it seems like a $%#@load of work.

I did the swap on my car in very little time ... maybe a couple hours. But now that i look back at it i think i can finish it in less then 2 hours, very simple to do the 5 lug conversion actually. Everyone will tell you the "easiest" way to do a 5 lug swap but it really all depends on what tools and the type of working space u have available. If you need help with it i can walk you through it (the way i did it of course)

Edit: Scott are you talking about just the "phone dial" rims? its too bad you live so far. im about to put mine up for sale for $200 (set of 4 good condition w/ new toyo all season rubber)

Gut the cat gut the cat gut the cat!!! I live in Ca too, i can care less about the emission but i would hate to have a ticket. So far i am thinking is a new Y pipe with a quiet muffler. I am not sure what to do about hte cat yet, but gutting it would seems like a good opinion. I was also thinking of getting the header and stuff and putting the silencer and quiet muffer on so the cop wont stop me. Maybe lighten pulls? Or electric fan?

I know I'll get flamed to RX7club hell for this, but as a project to get myself acquainted with common tools and working with cars, my father and I are swapping in an LT1 this August. I'm still going to do the 5-lug upgrade eventually, though.
