86 N/A ECU fuel cutoff?

Would an '86 N/A ECU have a fuel cutoff? I'm wondering if it'd use one at all, since it didn't originally have to worry about boost anyway.

do u have a turbo on your n/a? if so id get a fuel computer.. the n/a ecu knows nothing of fuel cutoff and you will run lean.. i think it does but fuel at what 7800 i think..

partially. I'm wondering if i could just use the original computer and get a fuel computer - but if it's got a fuel cutoff (not a rev limiter) then that would pose another problem.

yeah it has a fuel cut at 7800.. but most people i just buy a fuel computer.. you should buy a fuel computer anyways.. so try your ECU and use a fuel comp and see how that doesi am sure theres a way to bypass this cutoff i just never bothered haveing a n/a and all

Aaron Cake did this with his N/A engine, but I plan on using a TII engine. heh.

i thought it was 7800 for fuel cut but i actually heard that the fuel cut is 8100 but the stock tach is off by 300 so its 7800 anyone care to rummage on that?

revlimiter and fuel cut are the same thing or atleast do the same thing....stop your *** from moving fast....

The only way to bypass it is to get some kind of fcd for an NA model or get a reprogrammed ecu

I never felt one in my GXL. There was this one straightaway on my old road that was just a wee bit too long for 3rd, but too short to shift into 4th. The tach sat on 8000 for a good two seconds and the ECU never intervened.

if there's one at all, it'll be in all five gears (and hell, probably reverse too), but i've taken a car that rev limits at 6250 in drive to over 7000 in neutral.

anyway - My thought was to just forget about finding the Turbo II little annoying electrical parts, and just use the existing ECU/wiring harness with an SAFC or other fuel computer. Whatchoo guys think?

I don't really know because I don't take mine over 7200 roughly. But I thought there was fuel cutoff at 7700??? I guess there's only one way to find out (of which I don't feel like doing ).

god dammit i was reffering to how felix tried to hit revlimit in 3rd and 4th gear so i was what about 1st or 2nd meaning why not try it in those gears...i know youll only be hitting 41mph in first or 74 in 2nd

I've hit the s5 revlimit at about 8900 (indicated) once just to make sure it was there. With a stock intake, my torque noses over at 7800, so that's as high as I take it..

My '89 GXL has a fuel cutoff at 8600 that I hit all the time and it drives me nuts. Any way to remove it? And don't tell me to quit hitting it; I know what I'm doing to my engine.

Fuel cut or injectors maxing out the computer allowed pulsewidth? I think its the latter of the two. I can rev to 8423 when its warm out and now that it's 10 degrees I can only hit 8260. (denser air to burn more gas at a lower rpm for the same volume of fuel) I just got my 720's installed so we'll see if that changes anything.

#'s are based of the digital tach in my S-afc.

Rumor has it that the n/a ecu's will keep playing along untill 14k, but your engine most likely won't.

Fuel system needs to be improved to get it anything to burn above 8500 if you have a ported motor thats swallowing more air than stock.

Stock motors on the other hand probably aren't sucking in enough air to use up all the fuel that could be supplied so that what you think is the fuel cut happens to be the stall of intake charge velocity causing your engine to flatline its powerband.

I'm hoping the injector pulsewidth being maxed is my problem right now. That would mean that I can correct the fuel starvation with the s-afc and rev it to the 10K mark I want to hit.

I dumped lots of gas down the intake when swapping injectors so I'm gonna let her dissipate that for a while before firing it up with the new ones.

That's an interesting thought...I am flowing a whole lot of air, but since I gutted the intake manifolds (thus flowing even more air), it still bounces off a "limiter" at around 8600...same when it's warm out

Man, you guys without a fuel cut are lucky. According to my s-afc, I see fuel cut at 8650 or so. If you miss a shift it'll go to 9k+ pretty easy though. CJ
