86 interior lights

Went looking for a first generation parts car and came home with a a brite red 86. It had the usual idiot light and clock problems which were fixed by resoldering the three boards in the CPU and the light cluster but the interior lightswould only come on with the console switch. I removed the door switch (1 screw ) and cleaned the area where the slide contacts meet with a small brush on a dremel tool and God said "let there be light". A real quick fix.

The CPU is just to the left of the fuse block. Remove the kick panel (three plactic push pins and on screw on the sill plate. Remove the 10 mm nut at the top center of the CPU and unplug the three wiring harness plugs. Take the CPU to a well lit work area and remove the two small phillips screws from the unit. Carefully remove the plastic covers from the bottom of the CPU. This will allow you to slide out two of the cards. The carefully remove the rear of the CPU. This will allow you to remove the third and largest card. With a small tip pencil soldering iron heat the area where each of the brass blades from the plugs come through the board. Support the blades to keep them from falling out and heat the blade from the rear of the card untill the solder becomes molten and shiney. Take care only to heat the plug blade connections, some of the other parts are heat sensitive. Then as is say's in all manuals reassemble in the reverse order. To get to the idiot lights pry up qently on the front of the panel that surrounds the gage cluster. With it removed youwill see two phillips screws. one on each side of the cluster. Remove those screws and the cluster will pull towards you. Gently pull enough slack on the wire bundle to disconnect the plug. Again take the cluster to a well lit work area and pop the plastic cover off gently. Remove the three small screws and remove the board from the housing. The card can then be unfolded and you can get to the rear of the plug blades to resolder them. Again support the blades to keep the from falling out and use the smallest pencil tip iron you can find. Do not use a weller gun or large iron. Go carefully and slowly and you should do fine. Also using an advanced search with the words CPU soldering will get you other pictures and info.
