86 gxl wont run
Hey guys im tired of beating my head on the wall everytime i think i start to understand these beasts something like this happens. Ok so I have a 86 rx7 gxl na and i got a 88 s4 engine that has about 88k or so on it and the apex seals from the exhaust manifold holes were nice and thick. Ive been deflooding the car before i even tried to start it then i go to start it and it floods but not instantly. I dont know it could be, I dont think its the engine. I have no emissions stuff left on it. Thought it was the ecu so i got a tuned ecu and that didnt work. MAF?????? it was good on the last engine but i guess its possible. There are not cats, iac, bac, sub zero start, acv, running 2 cycle so no oil metering pump or injectors, cold air intake, rb header, precat, 3 inch exhaust and a port and polished tb not sure if that helps or not but figured i throw it all in there so you know whats going on. She cranks like shes got plenty of compression and i have put 3 new sets of plugs in her. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED I HAVENT DRIVEN HER IN OVER 1 YEAR AND A HALF NOW SINCE MY 277K ENGINE WENT OUT. Thanks guys/girls.

What wiring harness are you using, the 1986 or the 1988?
What injectors are you using? The 1986 or 1988?
Look under where the air box is/was... Is there a silver device with an oval shaped connector on it? Is it plugged into anything?

no just the tb has been that's it. so adjust the screw. i know your not really supposed to push the gas pedal down all the way but i had to do that when my old engine was going out the door. Didnt do the pull start yet. Mazda says not to mess with the adjustment...i work at a shop and i dont care but i dont really want to pay for another maf lol. Thanks

The AFM, I SAID AFM , has nothing to do with starting the engine unless it's shorted internally. If you remove it's plug, then that possibility is removed from the equation.
Not MAF, it's AFM, it's AFM. NOT MAF.
The AFM comes into play AFTER the engine reaches over 500 rpm.
I suggest you either pull/push start the car or disable the fuel pump by taking it's electrical plug off and spraying STARTING FLUID into the snorkel for no more than three seconds and them try to start the engine. Can't flood the car with the fuel pump plug disconnected.

yeah your right but the cars in a garage on a hill and its got a fiber glass corksport bumper that when the last time i had to push it, it was cracked lol ******* crap. But ill try the pump idea. But im still gonna try the coil thing cause the plugs are covered with fuel so i might not be getting spark. Thanks

^ If you're not getting spark, it won't even TRY to run.
I'd continue to look at the fuel system since it's flooding.
Use a noid light or multi meter to see what the injector pulse looks like.
Disconnect injector wiring and see if the plugs stay wet or become dry.

ok so i adjusted the crank angle sensor today and she started up but she wont idle now. so i let her shut off and tried to start her she wont so i move it to another place she starts after i deflood it and shes backfires shooting flames of about 12 inches or so lol pretty sweet if she would idle. Any ideas on how to make her want to stay in one spot on the crank angle and the idle problem. Thanks
