In one word, "Synchro's"!

You can shift without using the clutch.

^ya, but you can't pop it out while driving in gear too easy. bad shifter bushings would make it wobble all over the place as in if you put it in nuetral while coasting at like 20mph, the shifter would be bouncing all over and might even try to go in gear (grind) by itself. that's how my bro's was because his shifter bushings were gone. if it doesn't feel like that then you're good, synchros let you go in and out of gears without using the clutch but there is no synchro down into 1st, you have to rev match to not grind going from 2nd to 1st. shifting without using the clutch is often called speed shifting but puts more wear on your clutch disc.

^sure you can, in any manual car ive driven, you can slide it right into neutral at any time you want without pushing using the clutch

Sorry but I don't care how much the shifter is bouncing, once it is in neutral it cannot try and go into gear by it's self- period!

It can pop out of gear because of faulty internal components

ok, I'm wrong. My brothers 89 FC popped out of gear while driving, bounced all over in nuetral and tried to go back in to gears by itself (it didn't, but it did grind them). you had to hold the thing in the gear you wanted to drive it. He changed all his shifter bushings and it solved the problem.

My NA 86 FC can't be pulled out of gear very easy at all. you can do it but it takes a tug without the clutch while driving. same thing in my friends accord and in a ranger. that's my experience. guess they all have bad tranny's or something. idk.
