Somebody on here painted them white, to make it look just like a 10th anniversary edition.
First of all I recommend you get some plastic polish to clean them up. Apply this with a buffer if you really want it to look good. If you still don't like it, paint the stripes the color of your car but you MUST use a special paint for plastic. Paint the emblems on the back too...Hell I don't know the '86-'88 taillights dont' look too bad as they are. . .I don't know if painting them will help any. Just my opinion.

Oh yeah, you can make your own round taillights too. Just use a salt shaker or something to scribe the outline. Do a search on that I know some guys with 1st gens have done it and it looks pretty cool.
Just think, you can be the first person with round/slotted taillights!!!

Before I started making clears, altezzas, gtr's etc I had painted that trim. I too thought it wasa bit distracting. I didnt use any special technique. I bought a couple cans of the matched paint at pep boys, cleaned the tails, taped off the car real good and painted them. It looked good, I thought it made a big difference in the overall cleanliness of the exterior.

I have a pair of round taillights with license plate bracket from a 89 GXL. I originally bought them for my brother's 86 but he ended up selling it so I kept the lights. I have no need for them since my car already came with them. They are in good condition and have been sitting at my house for more than 3 months. So I really want to get them out of here. Ill let them go for $150. Email me at SeanYarroll@aol.com if you are interested.
