85 gsl-se 13b engine into a 87se?

hey all,
I have a 85 gsl-se thats really a good parts car. ( it needs way to much work to fix up.) I have a real nice 87 se that neds a engine, and was wondering if i could take the 85 and put it into the 87. would it have enough power to pull that car??? are the horsepower the same on those engines?? I know i would have to change to EFI, so what else would have to do??? thanx for you input!

Wont work, engine mounts are in a different place; the 1gen has mounts on the front cover, the 2gen has them on the int. iron and oilpan. Also the 1gen engine is rated around 135hp, and the 2gen engine 146. The 1gen engine is the same basic block, with slightly smaller ports, heavier rotors/flywheel (more low end torque), and 3mm seals stock.

The only thing really stopping you from doing this is the passengers side motor mount...the drivers side would actually bolt to the 1gen block, but the pass. side wouldnt. If you wanted it bad enough, you could fab up a bracket for the pass side, as there are bolt holes tapped on the pass. side of the 1gen block, similar to the d.side.
