Question 85 13b in a 88

I have a siezed engine in my 1988. Been looking for a good used motor for several months. I just bumped into a 1985 13b in good condition. Will this work??? Will the electronics be compatable???

I'm not sure if it would work or not, but I don't know why you would want to put an '85 13b into an FC. Aren't those engines only like 135hp, or something? I'm not to up on my FB knowledge. Can't you just get your engine rebuilt? Lol, sorry for all vague info.

Oh, by the way, where in PA is Downingtown? I'm in Hershey.

the pre fc engines have motor mounts on the front cover, and nothing in the fc locations, you would need to make motor mounts

A friend just put an 84 13B into a 2nd gen. The driver's side motor mount bolts up to the intermediate housing. I welded up a custom mount for the passenger side, it works great.

The engine is carburated so I can't offer any info as to the stock efi.

With the same intake/exhaust/ignition, the 84-85 13B makes only slightly less hp than the 86+. I will also state that I have seen many 200,000+ mile 84-85's and no 86+. I attribute this to a few things.......

Have you tried ATF on your seized engine? Can't hurt to try since it is probably seized due to a big chunk of carbon.

I talked to they guys at MazdaTrix and they said stay away from early Fuel Injected 13b. Motor mounts are different, exhaust manifold is diff and f/i will have problems with '88 ecu. So, back to the search... BTY, Downingtown is about 50 miles east of Hershey, in Chester County.
