6500 die out

my car starts to stop pulling at about 6500. just woundering if i get exhaust and intake if that would help gain bigger range in the power band. will it pull strong all the way to redline?

Damn that was fast.

You said you have straight pipes...

Is your car S4 or S5?

The S4 cars' 5/6 ports are activated by backpressure in the exaust.. and if you have straight pipes... well.... you gots no backpressure son

yeh my bad,

i ment every part of my exhaust is stock but i don't have mufflers.
also my friend rx7 does the same thing it just starts to lose power way up in the power band.

should it pull harder all the way up to 8000, then at 7000. or would it start to die off like mine does?

Mine pulls very hard till redline, 8k.

How did you see them go up? They will not open unless there is load on the engine.

stock power curve starts normally to drop back down at 6500 on a 86-88 and 7000 on a 89-91 non turbo.

Are you sure sure are not confusing that drop down with a problem?

Intake and exhuast will help out your powerband, and improve fuel economy.

Ports don't normally open if the car is revved out at standstill. Not enough load on engine. That's why Mr. Cake talks about putting some thick grease on the actuator rod then goin' for a rip.

If you have an S4 with straight exhaust, I don't think that your ports will open.

#1 the aux ports won't move unless the rear wheels are moving.

#2 the power curve would be down much lower if it was a aux port issue. Probably you would start loosing power around 4.5- 5K.

#3 if it easy to see if it is an aux port issue by wiring the ports open (for testing only, you don't want to drive around with all your low end gone). If the ports are wired open and you still have the problem, then you need to look elsewhere.

my s5 had similar problems...this is what I did...
first I removed the cats which helped alot, but the power still kind of dropped at about 6500...then I had a custom catback installed, which helped a tiny tiny bit....then I added a cone filter which had no noticeable difference except an annoying rice burner sound, so I took it off....well then i figured i'd do some actual maintenance to the thing...and I replaced my fuel filter. Holy crap...that $16 miracle gadget made the biggest difference of the three, by far. Now my car pulls hard all the way to redline.

generally there is enough back pressure with the cats out, but stock mufflers/cat back to activate the aux ports.
