6 Port Turbo (is this wise?)
I read on another forum that you can just bolt a turbo onto a 6 port. I thought that the 6 port and 4 port NA's had heavy rotors? If this really is worthwhile, I have an extra set of '94 turbo's that I would love to put on my '88 vert. It just sounds too easy.
Comments? I searched for similar threads, but couldn't find anything. |
Gee, look what I found using the search (took 30 seconds):

Thanks RETed, and you too Aaron Cake (at least I tried to do a search - obviously without the right keywords).
My 5&6 ports are stuck, so this sounded like a good reason to pull the motor and get some real HP. I must have a flywheel and weights here somewhere. reading to do ....end of thread. |
Stock 5 & 6 ports are not a good reason to pull your engine. You may choose to remove the upper and lower manifolds in order to clean the 5 & 6 ports. I haven't done this job, but from what I understand you need to be VERY carefull; you don't want any of the carbon and other stuff getting into your engine.

Ok....Maybe Im misunderstanding what is being said but, why in the world would he need a different counterweight for a turbo install?

bolt on a turbo, or turbos??

I pulled my entire intake 2 months ago. The port sleeves were free, only the actuator rods were stuck. If you can remove the actuator pistons (2 screws & 2 bolts each) and pull the rods, you’re better off than pulling the lower manifold. (The lower manifold gasket is a bitch. My #1 rod was really stuck, but with penetrant and patience I pull it out, cleaned, lubed, back on the road. See this page: http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/6portfix.htm
