Unhappy 6 k hesitaion/vdi soleniod update plz help!!

Okay its a 1991 rx7 N/A and after 6000rpm its like my car hits a wall. It won't get to redline in 2nd gear and on and stops at 6100 in 3rd. I know its not fuel related and I can't find a vacuum leak. However this is what worries me I took it for a drive and there is a very noticable tickng sound when it hits 6000rpm. Sounds like its coming from the engine and I am just wondering what internally/externally would do this? I haven't done a compression check yet I did pull the leading plug out of rotors one and two and both by the air/sound test seemed to be good. Is there anything else that could be causing this ticking sound. Need help here guys.

Can you rev it in neutral higher? I'd check your plugs/wires and also verify your grounds are clean. Ignition breakup has a tendency to cause issues like that in the upper bands. Other than that, plugged exhaust/intake are typically the only things I can think of off the top of my head to check out first. Also, you should be able to move your aux ports & vdi actuators by hand (if I recall you can even see the VDI actuator moving just when you rev the car). You can check those out while you're looking around.

Yah I can rev it to about 8000rpm in neutral so it is higher. I'm pretty sure that my plug wires aren't messed up although I did put in new ones. The leading is the bottom and ones I have (NGK) have a black boot and are longer, they are also labelled 1,2. The other two for the trailing are shorter and have the blue boot. The first rotor is one closest to fan right? If not I might have the order mixed up. I guess I'll go through my grounds to.

Note: It did sit in a shop for 3 months (Sept.-Nov.) when it wasn't running and I did notice that it started doing this after that and got progressively worse. Not sure how I would have a plugged intake or exhaust and this may seem like a stupid quest but how would you unplug an intake? Plus what the heck could get in there?

Okay I have another quest. now. Has anyone ever had any experience with a clogged cat? I am starting to think thats what's up (although still not sure about ticking. I think at the moment I have a slight leak from the header down to the rest of the exhaust (I replaced that gasket a couple weeks ago and seems to be doing it again. I also have a slight afterburn as well as more emmisions then I think I should have. My idle sometimes won't stay where it should and bounces back and forth. Between (1000-1250). I'm just trying to give you guys as much information as possible, I really need help.
