5th 6th port VDI activation.

Yes, I have tried searching. I was wondering, what activiates the VDI 5th and 6th ports in both series 4 and 5. IF you could answer me that it would be great.

Series 4: exhaust back pressure activates the aux ports, no VDI in series 4 motors

Series 5: air pump and electronics (solenoids and ECU) activate both VDI and Aux ports

VDI stands for Variable Dynamic Intake. The intake runners on the 89-91 RX-7 are two lengths, when VDI is not active, the intake runners are long and when it is active, they are short. This is the simple explanation. The length of the intake runners are tuned to maximize torque and HP at low and high RPM.

If you have a Series 5 RX7, then you will need to keep the air pump to actuate the VDI and Aux ports properly.

If you have a series 4 car then it sounds like everything is working properly. I might question the performance if it was a series 5 though, but if you have a stock exhaust, your motor won't rev all that much anyway.
