5th and 6th port problem

After reading the other threads on the 5th and 6th ports I decided to see if the actuation was whats causing my lack of power and reluctance to go through the higher rpms.

I have an 88 GXL. I removed the actuators and tried to rotate the triangular actuators myself. The rear one moved somewhat stiffly but it moved, although the last part of the movement was really resistive. The forward one moved easily. I did not realize there was a gasket on each actuator.

Question 1) Where can I get some new gaskets or should I make my own?

So I decided to drive my car with them closed to see if I notice a difference from before. I drove the car and could not tell a difference from my previous driving. So I assumed my ports were not actuating all along.

Just to compare I put both in the open position and drove it without tying them down. While driving it felt mostly the same. I looked at them afterwards and the rear actuater had returned to the closed position and the front was still in the open.

Question 2) What would cause one to close and not the other?

Question 3) Shouldnt there be a huge difference when I open and close these?

Question 4) Is it possible even though Im turning the actuators that the ports still arnt opening?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I use Liquid Wrench (a penetrating lube) on mine to get them working smoothly. do you still have your stock exhuast? an 88 would run on backpressure, thus if youve opened it up your ports will not work properly.

I used RTV to reseal my actuators, but be sure to not cover any of the holes, or you WILL be sorry. As for the ports not openeing, it could be stuck, penetrating oil and tenacity, not force should get the job done.

My car is 100 percent stock. As far as I can tell the back pressure is used only to actuate the actuators, otherwise turn the little triangular piece. I bought some high temp do it yourself gasket I was going to use, but yeah I do need to be careful not to seal the inlets.

Oh yeah, and when you say your using penetrating oil, do you mean with the intake still intact? Just spraying it on the turning triangle without opeing the intake?

thanks fellas

i just wired mine to the open position using regular copper wire (the solid kind). granted i loose power in low rpms, but above 3800 it kicks you back

But no more so than with properly working actuators. If you can I'd fix the system instead of wiring open.
