5 speed transmission

I just had my transmission rebuilt. It was grinding when I shifted to fast into second either up or down shifting. I had all the synchros replaced and all bearings. When I got the car back the transmission sounded like a truck tranny. My mechanic told me that the fact that we did not replace the gears which were fine it would take some time for everything to wear into place. ???? I'm sorry but I would think that most of the sound would come from the bearings. The freaking tranny is louder then I ever remember it to be. LOUD especially when coming off throttle. I would like to hear anyones opinion that knows anything about this. I don't need hypothetical comments. I want to speak with my mechanic but I don't want to accuse him of anything. Then again he might be right but it sure doesn't seem like it. People with previous tranny rebuilds and there experience or people that do it for a living please respond.

Later,
DB

It was about 750-850, I am not sure exaclty. I had the engine replaced at the same time. I got a little crazy but I'll tell the tranny is LOUD. It shifts nice up and down but I swear I am in a race car with no insulation.

What fluid did the mechanic put back in it? You might want to try some synthetic MTL after you put a couple of break-in miles on the trans. Redline is good stuff, Amsoil has some also I think.

Rebuilt mine (did the work myself) Replaced the bearings and seals dressed the sycros and gear cones. Did not replace any gears. It was *much* quieter than before the rebuild. (can barely hear it) However gears can make noise. If yours is louder now than before the rebuild I would expect the lash or gear alignment is not correct. It will not get better. Syncros may take some time to wear in but not the gears.
