40-70 mph times...post em guys!!

Ok, tonight i whent out and bought myself a $6 stop watch, just to do this. (Big $$ ) First set of runs was done with 1/8 tank of fuel, and passanger. Anyways, first run, from 40 to 70 took me 4.20 seconds. It was kinda off, as i pushed the button a bit early. 2nd run it turned a 3.87. Much better. Then i filled up the gas tank, and it whent down to a 4.07, then a 4.10. Whent to dinner, and on the way home it was about 10 degrees cooler, and it turned a 3.80 with pasaanger and 24 miles on the tank of fuel. I'm shure it'll go faster, with a near empty tank, and no passanger.

So come on everyone....let me know your times. I'm very interested in a stock 89+ Rx-7s times. I know these are'nt supper accurate, but they're just a guestament. I know some people will "fudge" there times, but these are real numbers, done to the best of my ability. CJ

Standard 40-70mph times are usually done in 3rd gear and punch from 35mph.&nbsp No wonder your times were so godamn fast!

Stock FC turbo - 6.5 seconds
Mildly modded FC turbo - 5.45 seconds

This was 35mph cruise in 3rd gear...punch gas...click stop watch when needle hit 40mp...clicked again when speedo hit 70mph.

Blame it on the way too tall n/a gearing. Im doing 73 mph at the top of 2nd, with smaller than stock tires @ 8500 rpm.

I only got a two chances, but with a big pasanger (Marine buddy) 1/2 tank of fuel i turned it in a 5.66, then a 5.7. I'll do some more when i have time/open road. Later, CJ

If you want to be accurate, you should do 6 runs back and forth (3 in each direction) on the same piece of road and average the times. This cancels out wind direction, road gradient and human (button pressing) error, which can all make a huge difference to your times.

I also like 2nd gear, because it makes use of where a n/a engine makes its power. 3rd gear is more for the mid range kinda power. 2nd is nothing but top end. Later, CJ

Yeah, but 3rd is generally used by magazine testers for roll-on acceleration testing because it's a better indication of an engines all-round ability. You spend much more time in the mid-range than up top. Plus you have to have a fixed criteria for comparision with other cars.

ReTed, what do you consider a mildly modded turbo car. It appears they're slightly faster than me. The average i get is a 5.7 or so. CJ

This was in my 1987 Turbo II.&nbsp Stock exhaust, cone air filter, boost controller set @ 10psi (with FCD).

You're running slighly taller gears, which would equate to just about the same power - at least 200 to the wheels!&nbsp That's some ride!

I realy doubt i'm making 200 to the wheels, it would be nice though But next month, after i install a Hi-6 i plan on taking it to the dyno. Then i can have some solid numbers. CJ

i did a run yesterday in my 86 n/a, all i got is a intake and modded TB, stock exhaust, 2440lbs, 5.12 gears i didnt have a stop watch or anything but it was ~6.5, i wasnt hitting the gas at 35mph, i got it to 40mph held it there for a second and then mashed the pedal, now that i know you punch it at 35mph ill get another time i also did a 5th gear 40-70mph the other day, i dont remember the time but it wasnt too terrible

oh BTW- if i had to try to hit 70mph in 2nd, lol well you can see what i mean having 5.12 gears lol
