4 lug big brakes

I know there are no kits available for the base FC to upgrade to a bigger rotor/caliper. the 5 lug conversion is an option and if I got a big brake kit for that I'd only really need a stock hub since a kit would come with a bigger rotor/caliper (I'd get one from Japan, lots of big kits for the FC there). BUT, considering they are so expensive, I wonder if other 4 lug brakes would work such as a kit designed for the 1st gen miata (there are a bunch) or even a honda. the offset for the wheels and the bolt pattern are identical, I suppose the worst case scenario would be that I'd need to make a different caliper mounting bracket and I have 17X7.5's so I shouldn't need to worry about rotor clearance. any thoughts? we just got a big brake kit for the 350Z project at the shop and we got it second hand. it's a 6 pot AP kit for a 300ZXTT w/ 13 inch rotors and it got me thinking of possibilities for the 4 lug FC.

Only way that youre going to know is get your hands on a kit (something like the miatas may be similar enough) and see what all you would have to do to make it fit. IMO, the 4-pot caliper 5-lug brakes on a FC are great, and really a big brake kit isnt necessary unless you are doing actual circuit racing, with a car much more powerful than stock, with upgraded wheels/tires. Have you ever driven in a FC with the 4-pot braking system? There is a HUGE difference between that and the 4-lug models IMO.

well, I already have the wheels to clear them, they would be less expensive than a big brake kit for the 5 lug and the car will be used in shows in the next couple of years and the wimpy stock rotors won't impress. I'll def. try it out, I'll let you know how it works out once I give it a shot. I may try to find a used big brake kit for a honda and go from there...

I was wondering the same thing, i was thinking of just getting honda accord cross drilled and slotted rotors in the OEM size and using them..... ps miata's are not the same lug pattern as a 4 lug rx-7....just letting you know, the miata is 4x100 the rx-7 is 4x114.3
