4 lug 4 piston brake setup...I thought is was possible

I remember reading a while back about some way of putting the 4 pistons calipers on my car while keeping the four lug hub.

I have many sets of wheels so I wanna keep the four lug. I know the rotor is larger. So can I make it work?

thanks

so I will never be able to keep my 4 lug race rims and have 4 piston brakes. that sucks

you would think there was a larger rotor for the 4 lug hub that would work.

i have a friend that did that to his 87 se. it is better to get the 5 lugs or larger rotors but he said there was a noticeable difference in stopping.

how did you friend go about this? Did he keep the 4 lug? It seems it could be dangerous not to have the pad directly seated on the rotor.

I still swear I read a way to do this.

Who wants to buy 3 peice Gotti racing rims from a porsche??? 16x7 and 15lbs? hehe

yea, he kept the 4 lug rotors. i thought the same as you did with the way the pads sat but he insisted that it can work and you get better stopping power.

i know its alittle late to jump into this convo but what ig you did convert the rear to 5 lug but kept the front with 4 lug how much of the pads would make contact to the rotor

ok...i don't even think it's safe to have the pad not completely seat onto a rotor when braking, that would lead to seized calipers i believe...

and to answer the original poster>

i believe you have to buy the five lug rotors that are meant for the 4 pot calipers and redrill hole for the 4 lugs...i remember also reading what you remember reading...

i am selling a set of Brembo Blank 5 lug front rotors NIB for 90 bux + shipping...let me know

when doing the 5 lug swap with the larger brakes should the BMC be replaced as well? or is it the same BMC on the rx7s

well, i am not sure on the rx7 whether it has different bmc, but if it does then do it, or you will have extreme rear brake bias (rear wheels locking up real quick!) due to more fluid is req to move 4 pistons.

... wow the 240 guys were right, some rx7 people just dont know about this stuff -=P kidding.

hmm. good info guys. How much do you think a machine shop would charge to drill these out for me.

I would love to go to 5lug but when you buy a car that has 3 sets of nice 4 lug rims. you kinda wanna keep it like that.
