Is it possible to put a 3rd gen tranny on a TII?

Not easily, but sure. I don't see why you would though, the gear ratios are the same as an S5 TII transmission, and I don't think it's even any stronger. Not to mention the differences in clutch hydraulics, and the issues with mounting, you'll probably need a custom driveshaft, etc.

it would be a huge pain 3rd gen trans is about 2 or 3 inches longer where the shifter mounts is also further back and rear rear of the trans is held up with the torque arm the clutch is a pull type in the 3rd gen and 2nd gen is push

The FD, you'd need a new bell and tail housing. Not worth the money. It'd be much cheaper to rebuild your own tranny than to try and make an FD one fit. The two are similar, but will not be bolt up.

You're better off buying a used T2 tranny
