350Z Vs. RX-7?

Has anyone raced one of the new Z cars? Who won? How does the new Z compare to the seven? My friend is going to get one and I want to know what I am going to go up against. My car is stock and not a turbo so I think my Fc will get beaten on this one. Both of us have about the same level of skill on driving except he usually risks more than I do. Anyone think I have a chance?

yeah, you're gonna get your *** handed to you basically. Although its a heavy pig of a car, its still making about 160 more HP than you are (287 vs your MAYBE 127) and with the tiptronic shifter, as much as i hate to admit it, shifting is insanly fast. (I know,m i took one for a test drive yesterday. It was oh so sweet)

A stock tii with a good driver can hang stock vs stock. Should beable to beat it actually. Doesnt a new 350z pull like mid-low 14s?

Btw its 240hp for the base model, then the track or touring or w/e it is has 280 supposibly. I have yet to see any dyno proof and so many manufacturers have been under rating their cars *cough* ford, kia, hyundai to list a few *cough*

maybe 240 at the wheels, but they all have the same engine and they all make 287 at the crank.

Uhh theres no way in hell you could beat a 350z. There very fast
Omochi is right all the models have the same engine its just options that are diffrent
Im wondering if a Rx8 can beat a 350z that would be more of a challenge

I think the RX-8 is capable of taking the 350Z down. In the latest Car & Driver the 350Z ranked higher then the S2000. Lets hope Mazda can meet the ante.

I found the Car & Driver test of the new Z... 5.7 /14.3. The typical road test when new and running 100% for the TII was 6.4-6.8, low 15's quarter mile. That is half a second to a second slower...a lot by racing standards. BTW, please don't say the magazines are wrong and you know more (so you have a 350 Z, a test track, and professional testing equipment?)
Keep in mind that we are talking about a brand new car, versus a 11-15 year old car, so why even compare. I don't think that anyone in their new 350Z is gonna feel bad, EVEN if you did beat them.
People don't buy something like that to race.

Stock TII = 14.9 in the 1/4 AT BEST, most road test I have seen are around 15.3

350Z = 14.0 in the 1/4, I'd be lucky to beat one with my mods.

this coming December 14th, my workplace is going to a track day organzied by clubz.org. There's going to be some 300Zs there and hopefully a 350z or two. We have about 3 modded FDs, 2 TIIs, a GTUs, and some MP3s in our group. Hoepfully one of us can beat those 350Zs on the track. I'll post up results or maybe even a video.

iirc, the 350Z is aobut 3300 pounds, and also iirc, my N/A is 2600.

Anyway the point is, those things are gonna start getting scary when aftermarket turbo's and other such things start coming out for them. that big 3.5 litres has big potential. The RX8 is more it's line of competition anyway. And i think ultimatley the RX8 will win. The only thing i DONT like aobut the 8 is the stupid suicide doors and backseats. Hopefully they'll come out with a 2 seater 2 door model.

You gotta give the 350z props for style though, they're easy on the eyes.

The 350Z are like the S2000. So far they have had trouble modding them. They come so great from the factory that everything they put on them they end up loseing HP in most cases. Not sure if a stock NA can beat it but what do you think about a streetported 7 vs 350Z?????

Well living like two seconds from the nissan plan here in town, there are several 350z's and a new silver one that i did have a chance to race on the interstate. And yea, there kida fast, but i pulled several car lengths on him before i decided to slow down we were well above 120 and this car never showed signs of topping out, it just kept pulling, but not enough.

They are two different cars...
One is made for fun, the other is made to look fun but slosh around like a pig unless it's the track version.

Granted the 350z has more power, I still think the 7 keeps your senses aware.

I've driven all 5 styles of 300ZX (Z31, Z31 turbo, Z32, Z32 Turbo, Z32 vert) and they are all the same, fast and comfortable, but nothing unexpected unless you count that HICAS crap (it's great for making the car do **** you don't want it to!!!). Unless something major has changed at nissan, I don't expect the 350Z to be as fun as an rx7 will ever be.

If you are driving for speed, then power will win out of course....
