3" downpipe vs 2.5

hi. im considering getting a whole new exhaust. first of all i have flames coming out when the car is 'popping' with a 2.5" downpipe, no cats, 2.25 Midas bent(**** bent) y-pipe and N1 style cans. this setup is really loud. if i were to upgrade to better piping like a full RB system, would i get a bigger burst of flame when the car is backfireing? will it increase my boost? i have a hks sport upgrade turbo and fmic running around 11psi. thanks.

well whats gona happen when u bump up the pipe size, is ur gonna increase airflow, but not velocity. so you can push more air thru the pipe if u keep the same velocity. just makin the pipe bigger, will probably DECREASE the velocity, cuz ur air flow increased. you can flow more, but at a slower speed, ur not trying to cram all that air thru a small hole. whats gona happen is, ur flames might be smaller, cuz the exhaust isnt coming out as fast, so the flames arent gonna shoot out as far as they used to.

ive got 2.25" straight pipe out the side on my 88NA, and when i shift, a blue flame shoots out about a Foot. its like the shape of a blow torch flame, not the curly orange flames like i see in pics and video clips.

chris

edit: you might see a 1-2psi increase in boost. that is, if tehre is any restrictions left to get rid of. if ur already as free-flowing as possible, you might not have any more boost to gain from going bigger
