WA 2x2 Conversion?

I have an 86 that is totaled out and am currently using it for parts. It has the boxes behind the front seats. My new 87 GXL has the 2x2, and I don't like it.

That being said, is there any way to switch out the backs? I haven't taken the time to look at the cars, mainly because all my ideas come to me at night, but I will tomorrow. I have searched and couldn't find anything on a 2x2 conversion.

Thanks!

It should be an easy switch. When you remove the back that you like, notice where the screws are removed from and your other car should have the very same place to rescrew in the new back( the one with the boxes).

yes the screw holes for one car is on the other but they will have little rubber inserts protecting the threads, make sure you use the entire carpet all the way back to the spare tire area, as they are diffrent. then send me your back seats, arent black by any chance(or was there ever black +2 option) want em for my 10th AE.

Also, would there be anyway to use the carpet from my new car? Maroon would look very.. tacky with gray.

The problem with that is you need carpeting that will fill in the space between where the back of the backseat was foward towards the bottom of the wall behind the front seats.

I am unsure if I will make the tranformation as right now because of the carpet deal. I may however take out the back seats and create a box for a my speakers. I was thinking a 10 and a 12 for the subs.

How about taking the full length piece of carpeting you have and dying it to a color to properly match the interior. It should be fairly easy to do to remedy the situation.

Hmm, what would be the process, and or cost of this. I don't even know where I could buy dye around these parts for carpeting? Sears, or something of that sort?

Use the "search funtion" on this forum for "carpet dye" perhaps and also do an internet search for the availability of the dye. I am sure there are numerous outfits which supply the product needed. You could dye the carpeting using stuff out of a spray can. Also you might want to PM "RX7freak" for some possible insight into this. Use the search function again but click on advanced search then enter his handle name in the box and as you type his name it should appear fully in the box then do a search for his posts then click on his name in the left hand side of the post and then click on send a pm to rx7freak and go from there.
