2nd gen thats sat
Hello I'm going to look at an FC this weekend thats sat for 6 months or more, I was just wondering what the potential problems with the engine would be?
If any knowledgeable people out there (and this is the best place for that ) have any ideas I would appreciate it )

Yeah, I wouldn't start crankin' on it till I had some ATF in the rotors.. but you never know.
Even though this link is for FD's, there's still some good tips:

ATF??
Isn't the atf trick for a car that wont start??
I've been told it starts up fine.
Or are you refuring to lubing the seals???
Just looking for a little clarification on this one
and Thank all of you for your reply's. I'm suprised
they came so quick

Not sure why you would use ATF? 6 months should not be too bad. Maybe bring along some premix just in case the OMP decided to stop working. Other than that it might smoke a bit but should be ok once it warms up.

Well, I was thinking that a rotary that's been sitting for so long wouldn't have much oil (if any) left in the rotor housing to build compression, hence the ATF.
I freely admit I'm less educated on bringing to life stored rotaries than I should be, but perhaps you could shed a little more light on the car you're looking at?
How well has it been maintained?
Did they crank it up every week or so?
How's the basics look? (Plugs, oil, wires, coolant, etc?)
If they've started it recently then nevermind. My assumptions (and my second cup of coffee) got the better of me.

Have a '89 TII I purchased new. In the all the years I've owned it there has been 4 times when I've needed to use ATF to restore compression when the seals shrink. I don't drive it in inclement weather, and if I let it sit unstarted more than 3 weeks in extremely cold weather, it won't start.
Good Luck!!!
