2nd gen to 1st gen retro fit
Hi, first post in 2nd gen forum i think, but anywayts.
I have an 84 GSL-SE with a 13b. I also have an s5 intake. Upper, lower, and the runners with all the fuel rails and injectors. My plan is to put that intake on my 1st gen. The only trouble i have is the VDI(i think thats what its called). I had heard mention of it needing to be blocked off, or set up to work using a pump or something. Can someone please explain this VDI thing to me and when or how it is supposed to work please.

VDI is actuated by pressure (generated from the stock air pump), fed through a vacuum solenoid which is switched by the computer dependent on load and rpm, to an actuator at the valve. IT opens under heavy acceleration at 5500rpm. IT needs about 2-5psi pressure to open, from an air pump or electric air motor of some sort. Once pressurized, the pressure must be vented to atmosphere to allow it to close, thus the need for the vacuum solenoid.
BTW I have a writeup about installing a 2gen intake on an SE motor on my webpage...it is specific to s4 intake though, s5 requires additional modification.
